Twas Christmas Day

Twas' Christmas Day
When all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse
the stockings were full and sitting on the floor
Santa Claus came then headed out the door

The children at dawn sprang out of bed
out of their bedrooms and down the stairs they fled
While hubby and I lay in our bed
wanting to go back to sleep, instead

When down in the family room I heard something clatter
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter
Away to the stairs I flew like a flash
tripping and teetering, there was almost a crash

When what to my wondering eyes should appear
but my children all wide eyed, and full of Christmas cheer
Santa Claus came, he left goodies and a toy
the kids were in heaven, their hearts full of joy

Then off to the tree to see what was there
maybe something so special, and ever so rare
The papers went flying with ribbons and bows
there were toys and games, electronics and clothes

Two minutes to play and then time to go
got dressed, out the door, and into the snow
hopped into the car and away we all went
visiting family, with time to be spent

We opened more gifts and a present or two
then relaxed for a minute with still more to do
When the gifts were all opened, we cleaned up the mess
threw out all the boxes, and ribbons, and excess

We had a quick lunch, then hopped in to the car
over to granny's house, which isn't too far
the kids are real happy, can't wait for more gifts
they open and open, their movements so swift

Now it's all over, we sit back and relax
Put up our feet, and have a few snacks
The kids are real tired, and we are quite spent
the day has been long, but very content

When we get home, the kids are quite sacked
we get in the door and start to unpack
the day is now over, Christmas is done
What a day it has been, we've had so much fun

Another year over, another Christmas down
365 more days till Santa comes back to town
The day it was fun, so merry and bright
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night

The work was created by me, and posted only at
